Maybe you have a song that would be perfect for another singer. There are hundreds and often thousands of other people who feel that THEIR songs are perfect for that singer. "Pitching" your song to the singer or some in-between such as an A&R person or producer or manager requires a good relationship and top-notch songs. There are many ways to destroy the relationship before you even build one, so it's better to proceed with caution and ALWAYS with courtesy.

Brent Baxter asks (hypothetically) when is it okay to present a publisher with a "work tape" and when do you need a fully-produced demo recording? Admittedly, he's talking mostly about people who live in Nashville trying to get a publisher interested in a song to pitch to a Country artist, but there are some good points. http://songwritingpro.com/2017/01/30/aap-demos/
