Our first articles about why you need to deliberately and diligently develop as a musician your entire life - but especially when you are young enough for stuff to really soak in, even if your mother and your posse think you're already as good as you need to be to take the music world by storm. Again, at this point, they're largely pointers to other helpful resources we've discovered, many of whom are written by friends we trust.

Added a short article about why you need to work on your voice even if you don't see yourself as a singer:

Again, starting early and keeping it up is crucial.

Added a brief article on why you need to know basic music theory to write better songs, understand the music your performing better, and not expose your ignorance when you're surrounded by actual musicians.

Several links to helpful resources are included.

Added a brief article about why you need to learn to write songs, even if you don't think that is your "forte." For example, some opportunities use songwriting ability as a "litmus test" for your overall musicianship.

Now we've added an article to hopefully help you avoid shooting yourself in the foot from flakey, lazy, or jerky behavior.

Some of the topics addressed relate directly to musicianship, but every one of them is valuable for any musician.

Here's a blog from my music page that was a response from a friend who was doing an audition he didn't really care about.
