Post subject:  Value of a Supertone C Melody?

A reader writes:

I recently purchased a saxophone. Today I was told it was a C Melody . Has L under serial number . Silver on brass . The only name I see is Supertone , made in USA. He said the value was less than $50 . Just looking for another opinion. Anything will be helpful . Thank you for your time .

Supertone didn't make their own saxophones; they contracted with other manufacturers to make them. If you reply to this message and attach some clear photos, I can probably give you more information.

The only reason your instrument's value would be that low was if it was in need of serious repair. That said, it costs a lot to restore an old horn like this ($150 to $300), so some folks decide it's not worth it. That said, if the pads are good and everything works, your "advisor's" estimate was still low.

Best of luck,
